Ashley Scheider

Workshop leader: How to provide your family clients a fun and memorable experience

I am a Seattle Area Photographer living in Hobart Washington and a single, stay-at-home mom to two wild, feral, nature-loving toddlers.

I am most passionate about adventure photography and outdoor lifestyle family photography, capturing emotions, fun, and joy during my sessions, as well as in the wild. I practice leave no trace principles and guide my clients towards them as well.

I strive to show and capture movement and emotion in photos. I lean more towards a lifestyle approach, playing games, running around, having a parent toss their youngest child in the air, and enjoying our time together to distract from hearing and noticing a camera in their face. My goal is to have a more relaxed feel, to let kids explore their surroundings. To approach the session with a calm more laid-back feel to it, so nobody is stressed and can have an enjoyable experience outside as a family, together.

Tashana Hayes

Workshop leader: How to create a styled elopement for your clients

The first thing you need to know about me is that I have this quirk my loved ones refer to as "happy hands". This makes it a tad difficult to hide my emotions and if my hands are holding something say like a camera, beverage, or baby, I will most likely do a little Irish jig-type dance instead.
I have always been an artist, a tad eccentric, with a love for singing way too loud and laughing till I cry.
Nothing in my life is without great passion, and I believe imagination is my most cherished possession.
The camera has allowed me to become a teller of stories, new love, old love. It can give you a voice when you can't find the words, which is pretty dang wonderful!!!

Irene Jones

Workshop leader: How to utilize off-camera flash

Storytelling has always been a passion of mine. From a young age, I wanted to know everyone’s story and was captivated by the idea that all of us live unique lives. So when I picked up a camera 20 years ago and found a window into the worlds of others, I was hooked. In my time I’ve tried all the different photography specialties, but it was wedding photography that really captured my imagination. My goal for every wedding is to excavate the authentic emotions from under all of the artifice and find a narrative that is real to each couple. I truly believe that we all have value and I want to honor each journey. Personally, I’m a mom of 4, a baking show addict, bibliophile, and NPR junkie. I’ve been told I have a dark sense of humor but a big heart. My kids complain about it, but I love dragging them on hikes. Travel is a hunger I’m constantly feeding and along the way, I’m the annoying person who wants to chat for the entire eight-hour flight; not because I have a lot to say, but because I want to hear your joys and struggles.

Jennifer Tai

Workshop leader: Composing a More Compelling Candid

Established in 2007, Jenn Tai & Co is known for our award-winning, moment-driven documentary wedding photography. Our approach to producing emotive, moving wedding photography is a thoughtful mix of portraiture and photojournalism, creating mood and story that’s authentic to our clients.

Creating Compelling candids for a Better Story will help you:

1) build a mental process for creating a wedding day story that flows organically

2) approach weddings with a photojournalist’s eye through thoughtful observation and composition while maintaining your voice

Attendees will share their most recent weddings in 100 photographs per wedding, where we will then attempt to build a slideshow of no more than 30 frames using mainly candids of a given wedding and the photographer’s memory of that day. We will go over photojournalism techniques covering access/opportunity, observation, composition and how they fit into a wedding day for those weddings, and storytelling methods covering setting+lighting, emotion, movement.

This is a documentary photography workshop focused on weddings, but the principles may apply across genres.

Dan Manning

Owner of Photolush and Dan Manning Photography

I’m a wedding and elopement photographer and especially love it when they involve adventures to stunning locations. I’ve been a photographer for over 19 years and think I have the greatest job in the world. Taking care of my clients and building relationships with them is one of my favorite aspects of what I do and it’s one of the areas that I personally feel makes me stand out. I also own and manage Photolush and have loved the experience of helping to cultivate the community over competition aspect that we photographers are blessed to have as a part of our industry. My first experience with Photolush was as a speaker in the Spring of 2018 and I instantly fell in love with everything. Then that Fall, the unexpected happened and I was able to take over Photolush and got to learn and grow the conference with Afton Lewis. It was a HUGE learning curve for us, but in the Spring of 2019 we put together our first conference and the feedback was remarkable! At that point, we had a lot of passion for wanting to improve and grow Photolush even more for 2020. And then it all went to shit. Covid 19 came along and forced us to shut down everything just 3 days before it was supposed to start. It SUCKED. We did our best to put together online videos to share with the attendees, but it just wasn’t the same as us all being there together in person. Afton ended up stepping away from Photolush in the Summer of 2020 and everything was just in a waiting pattern for the virus to either subside or for the vaccines to come along. During the Spring of 2021, it became clear that the vaccine was not only rolling out in a quick manner but that it was actually working as well as we’d all hoped it would. At that point, it was obvious that not only could I start planning for Photolush 2022, but that all of us NEEDED it to happen. So, I got to work and the inspiration started flowing and I’m thrilled to share everything I’ve planned for Photolush 2022! This year is going to be really special for many reasons, but I’ll list a few of them. The first one is that I have a lot of activities planned to encourage all of you to spend more time together and socialize, which is incredibly needed. The next is that the list of educators I’ve been able to bring on board is mind blowing and I couldn’t be more proud of the team we’ll have with us! Lastly, I’m planning a lovely dinner party on Saturday night followed by a dance party! It’s truly going to be a party wrapped around a photography conference. I cannot wait to have you there with us to celebrate, learn, and grow not only our photography and business skills, but also our community as well. See you there!
